Day 20-22. Kangaroo Island – Sydney [+video]

Time to go back to Sydney. Not in one day. It’s more than 1,600 km from Kangaroo Island to our home, so we split it into three relaxing trips. Three days to contemplate about this beautiful holiday. It felt like our first two holidays to Western Australia. Vast distances, blue skies, red soil and so quiet. Different than last year’s eastcoast trip to Queensland, where the weather was less stable, and we basically manoeuvred through the rain and clouds, although we were lucky. South Australia can have it’s freezing polar winds from the south, but for the majority you don’t have to worry about the weather. Like Western Australia (…). Adelaide and the wineries were lovely and charming, Kangaroo Island is eerily quiet and has stunning coastlines, the NSW outback is rough though nice, but the Flinders Ranges was probably the ultimate highlight of the holiday. Impressive landscape, lots of wildlife, breathtaking views and great to explore by car or by foot. This holiday was amazing, and we enjoyed thoroughly.

The long trip from Kangaroo Island to Sydney, with a night’s sleep in Mildura (first time in Victoria for us !) and one in Wagga Wagga (that’s New South Wales)

When we drive past Wagga Wagga, just four hours southwest of Sydney, we see a line of grey clouds at the far horizon. It comes closer and closer. Past Canberra we drive under this blanket of clouds. The temperature drops suddenly from 31C to 20C. The rain falls on the windscreen of the car. Welcome back to Sydney’s summer !

This summarises the trip to Mildura…

… and this to Wagga Wagga. There is not much to see here.
