Pro Hart was a former miner, but also Broken Hill’s best known artist. Although he died in 2006, his gallery is worth visiting. The Flying Doctors museum near the airport is fascinating, and shows everything about the service, including the headquarters, aircraft and the radio room that handles calls from remote towns and stations. 100 kms southeast of Broken Hill are the spooky and magnificent Menindee Lakes, freshwater lakes that supply the area with water. And they house over 200,000 waterbirds.
