Day 4. Mining, movies and milk in Broken Hill [+video]

It literally feels like a warm bath in Broken Hill. Sunny, blue skies, and a dry heat of 35C. Love it. Today we drive to Silverton, a ghost town 26 kms north of Broken Hill. Silverton has been used as a setting for movies like Mad Max II and A Town Like Alice. The road beyond Silverton leads to the Mundi Mundi Lookout where you look over the vast expanse of the Mundi Mundi Plains. Back to Broken Hill we visit the Daydream Mine where you descend down the steps with a helmet and light on your head. The 1882 silvermine has horrible stories of early days miners who died young due to the harsh working conditions. Afterwards a refreshing milkshake in the Bells Milk Bar, a restored 1950s bar complete with all the attributes of that decade.
