We are still on track to travel ’round the continent’ of Australia. However, we are not backpackers, nor have a sabbatical leave of multiple years to do it all at once. We have to do it in stages. So far we have seen great parts of Australia. I’m still in love with Western Australia (so beautiful !), had an amazing trip in the Red Centre, and last year parts of beautiful Queensland. Australia is such a versatile and beautiful country, that we still have no appetite to travel overseas or see any other country. All the beautiness is around the corner…. almost. It’s one continent but it is HUGE ! Ask the backpackers ! In January we will jump into the car and travel via the New South Wales’ outback to South Australia. So much to see there, and can’t wait to admire the awesome Flinders Ranges, drink the best wines of Australia (yes, South Australia is wine state number 1 !) and relax on the beaches of Kangaroo Island. The excitement has already started. We will keep you up to date with all stories and photos on this blog.
If you look at this map, there are still so many beautiful trips left: Broome to Darwin, Darwin to Cairns, The Great Ocean Road, Tasmania, and Adelaide – Perth ! One day we will have done ’round the continent’ !
It’s 4,000 kilometres ! And we will travel counter clockwise ! Click on the photo for an enlargement.

The NSW – SA border, near Broken Hill
The Flinders Ranges
The Barossa Valley and all the other adjacent wine regions of South Australia
Kangaroo Island
And all the vast distances !

Wij deden de wandeling begin December en het viel reuze mee met de hitte daar, kan me wel herrinneren dat het een lange tocht was van 23km waarvan het eerste stuk vrij stijl omhoog. Maar het 360 graden uitzicht van St Mary’s Peak is de moeite van het klimmen waard.
Weet niet hoe heet het is in Januari… ga je daar trouwens kamperen? Volgens mij was er niet veel anders, althans niet in 2003…
Dank je Wilma ! Een 23 km wandeling met de kids ? Daar denk ik nog ff over na… haha…..
Leuk!!! Jullie bewaren de Kimberley en het zuiden van West Australie dus nog even voor later.
Prachtige route weer, hier een paar tips;
Victor Harbor en Granit Island bezoeken als je in Adelaide bent.
Mungo desert bezoeken bij sunset, ligt noord oost van Mildura. De Murray River area is zoiezo erg mooi. Echuka bijvoorbeeld.
En natuurlijk Flinders Ranges is super, die dag wandeling door Wilpena pound is zeker de moeite waard, hoogtepunt van de trip zou ik zeggen!

Dank je voor de tips Wilma ! Laten we hopen dat de dagwandeling door Wilpena Pound mogelijk is en dat het niet te superheet is. Het is januari en het kan daar zomaar 45 graden zijn. Anders een vroege ochtendwandeling !
